Introduction of Ume-eda (Plum branch)

Ume-eda (Plum branch) is a designing metal that can be made of both stainless steel and titanium.

Suitable for interior and exterior architecture, it can be used in any location or setting, including coastal areas prone to salt damage.

This product was developed with inspiration from the ‘Flying Plum’ at the historic Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan.

Combining Japanese tradition, modern beauty and the durability of metal, Ume-eda (Plum branch) is a designing metal that can propose Japanese cultural sensibilities as well as modern technology to designers, creators, and architects.

History and Background of the Development of Ume-eda (Plum Branch)

‘Ume-eda (Plum Branch)’ is named after the legendary ‘flying plum’ associated with Michizane Sugawara, the god of learning enshrined at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine.

This shrine is an important site symbolizing Japan’s history and culture, and the ‘flying plum’ is its iconic symbol.

And Ume-eda (Plum branch) was developed to incorporate this tradition and history into modern architecture.

Design and Characteristics of Ume-eda (Plum Branch)

Ume-eda (Plum branch) was initially developed for master architect Frank Owen Gehry for a European project.

After the European project adopted another material, this product was redesigned for the Japanese market and became the current ‘Ume-eda’.

Ume-eda (Plum branch) can exhibit a variety of metal characteristics through the selection of stainless steel grades and the use of titanium.

Elegant Design of Plum Branch
