A stainless panel homage to the Hakata Kento pattern.
The strong vertical stripes characteristic of the Hakata Kento pattern are expressed through three types of polishing methods: “A dazzling but non-dazzling buff polish,” “A vertical line with unevenness conscious of the sharpness of Hakata weaving,” and “A diamond polish conscious of the unique pattern.” Ten patterns combining these three types are created and arranged on a 1m wide panel.
The base material is the high-corrosion-resistant ferritic stainless steel NSSC-220M (exterior) and environmentally harmonious white stainless steel NSSC-FW2 (interior), imagining the silvery color of Hakata Kento pattern.
In this case, to abstractly express the core design of vertical stripes, we began by abandoning the conventional wisdom of polishing. After numerous mock-ups and seeing the actual item, we finally found “the solution.”
It was a result made possible by the local advantage. As a result, we could express the quaint Hakata woven Kento pattern with cutting-edge technology through uneven polishing, providing a non-monotonous, heterogeneous finish.
